Create Homes supports young girls starting their health & fitness journey
Create Homes allows every member of staff one charity day each year in which they can peruse their interests whilst giving back to the community. Georgia Bridge, herself a keen weight trainer & fitness fanatic, was on hand to support and mentor the young girls attending a Strong Girl Squad event in February half term at the popular CrossFit Blackpool.
The Strong Girl Holiday Club is a Government run scheme led by Head Coach Sally Thompson-Taylor and Rachel Ratcliffe, who collaborated with CrossFit Lincoln to identify the need for fitness training in a female-led environment for young girls in the area. The programme is designed to engage girls in years 7-12 with strength and conditioning activities, so they can build healthy relationships with food and their bodies, whilst offering them the opportunity to meet inspirational members of their local community.
Coaches Sally and Rachel commented: “We first launched our Strong Girl Squad in summer 2023. The squad has been a huge success and seeing young girls enjoying weightlifting and building friendships together is amazing. As coaches it is incredibly rewarding to see the impact of these sessions on all girls who join us. We have many volunteers who join us for our sessions and the girls really benefitted from meeting Georgia and finding out about her inspiring fitness journey.”
The sessions are designed to educate the young girls on the benefits of lifting weights safely and effectively through a series of strength and conditioning sessions. They are full of encouragement and fun, helping to boost the young girls’ self-esteem, dispel any anxiety about exercise and provide encouragement for them to develop a life-long love of fitness, with the aim to help them feel strong both mentally and physically. As well as the goodie bags provided by Create Homes, which contained toiletries, the girls also enjoyed full training session with Georgia, Sally and Rachael, as well as enjoying a nutritious meal.
Georgia Bridge, Area Sales Manager commented: “The day was beneficial for all girls who attended, showing them that it’s cool to learn about the importance of looking after their bodies, whilst making some great memories and having fun along the way! It was an amazing experience and a real privilege to mentor this group of special young ladies.”
